City Kids

written by Tom Wells

Synopsis

Living in London at the start of World War II, four children are evacuated to a quiet village in Devon to escape the Blitz.
Initially unwelcome and unloved, life for them is most unpleasant, but events dictate that they rise to become local heroes.

The Show

Music and lyrics by Tom Wells.
Originally written under the title “City Boys”, the show was premiered in 1989 at Hillstone School (now Malvern College Prep School).
In the same year, one of the songs, “All Alone” won first prize in BBC Hereford and Worcester music competition. The show also reached the final stages of a national competition for new musicals.

The show features a collection of songs with a variety of musical styles from melodic, soulful ballads to foot tapping up tempo numbers.

This new production has been modified for today’s stage with new songs, script adaptation by Julia Sandy and additional lyrics by Kris Quatermass.
The show is staged by residents from Powick and Callow End and recently sold-out a two night run at Powick Parish Hall, raising in excess of £1,500 for St. Richard’s Hospice, Worcester.

By popular demand, the show returns to Malvern Forum Theatre for one night only.
